Show Notes

We continue the conversation with mother Nicole and daughter Cassidy Meyers, today discussing the racism received by being Black in a White neighborhood and how it can be so subtle or indiscriminate that it’s confusing and disorienting. Also, “the talk’, and how it may be different for young men and young women. Lastly, a generational discussion on WAP by Cardi B. and Megan Thee Stallion, how it empowers women, and how it alone is not good enough. Nicole Meyers is an attorney in Los Angeles, California, where she practices plaintiff-side employment law. She holds a J.D. from Southwestern Law School, a B.A. in Theatre from UCLA, and is licensed to practice law in California and New York. Before becoming an attorney, Nicole traveled the world working as an actress and model. When she’s not aggressively advocating for her clients, Nicole’s likely enjoying quality time with her husband, children, and their three frisky cats. Cassidy Meyers is a senior photography major, writing minor at Spelman College. She’s a Los Angeles native who has been living in Atlanta for the past four years attending college. Recently, she participated in a program called ‘Black Future Creators’ through Beats where she got to create content related to her photography journey, which was featured on their site. She has loved the arts since childhood, and plans on continuing to use photography as a form of self expression. -- Please **rate and review** this podcast if you enjoyed it; reviews greatly help new listeners see this podcast is worth their time. What Doing The Work Feels Like

Alexandra and Lenya discuss the balances of both doing work, and doing the work. First work/life balance is addressed, and how we’re also facing hustle culture. Behaviors from this capitalistic pressure can be seen in the students in Alexandra’s classroom. And both describe how they have been using social media to engage and distance themselves from what they need to. -- **We want to hear from you!** Let us know how you’re speaking about these issues with your friends. **Let us know what topics you want to hear!** Email us at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) You can find us at: [WomenBridgingtheGap.com](https://womenbridgingthegap.com)  Lenya’s Tik Tok: [@lenya_styles](https://www.tiktok.com/@lenya_styles) Or on Instagram: * Find Lenya at: [@lenya_styles](https://www.instagram.com/lenya_styles) * And Alexandra at: [@a_xandra17](https://www.instagram.com/a_xandra17) and [@thewritingleap](https://www.instagram.com/thewritingleap) * And the show is at: [@women_bridging_the_gap](https://www.instagram.com/women_bridging_the_gap/) This podcast was edited by Brendan Hutchins from Podcast Advocate. In Conversation with Young Advocate AB Tucker on Black Excellence, Fighting for the Wrongfully Convicted

AB Tucker is the gust today, and she tells the story of her brother being wrongfully accused of murder, and how that has pushed her down her own path for criminal justice, and to set right what was wronged. As AB tells the harrowing story of her brother being wrongfully accused of murder, Alexandra, Lenya, and AB touch on the prison industrial system, and how the system doesn’t care if they pick the wrong Black man, or boy, and the actual perpitrator is on the streets and could strike again, giving the system another opportunity to put a Black man behind bars; that’s actually the point. Alexandra uses her lawyer background to dissect the story of AB’s brother, and see where there were pitfalls, and maybe how to use them to change the case. But also she describes how difficult it still will be, a whole system working against them. Kids and Capitalism with Brendan Hutchins

Producer of the show Brendan Hutchins is back to talk about getting his vasectomy reversed, having babies in this current state of the world, and just an update on what's going on in his world.   Very quickly the topic turns to capitalism, as it often does, and we discuss the various things companies do because of the capitalistic incentives that drive all of their actions. There is also good conversation about charging your worth, and Lenya delighted by revealing she recently asked for a raise after starting The No Budget Babe course.   We shift over to discussing green energy and electric vehicles. Alexandra expresses she would feel guilty driving a fancy car, and Brendan counters that he just preordered a fancy electric car. Well, fancy and practical. There is a nice conversation about Tesla and never mentioned the CEO.   Brendan is getting married, so the ladies ask all about the planning and what's going to happen, and share horror stories of weddings they’ve attended.   --   Please **rate and review** this podcast if you enjoyed it; reviews greatly help new listeners see this podcast is worth their time.
